DIY Tassel Earrings

I saw these gorgeous Vanessa Mooney Tassel earrings on Nasty Gal and decided to make my own. The original cost $45, versus $3 for floss and earring hooks I had on hand.

Take three packs of embroidery floss and combine together. Tie one end of the fold with extra floss and cut off the other end.

Split the string into two groups.

With your extra floss, snip an extra piece of floss the same length of your tassel.

Here is the hardest part: creating a square knot. Do not tighten it just yet.

Knot your earring hook into the extra string.

Before we tighten it we are going to slip this inside. Make sure you can figure out what area its being pulled through. Keep an eye on it.

Pull all the string tight into a square knot, keeping the hook on the outside.

Gather the threads all together.

Tie your extra string around.

Wind it around the tassel a few times.

Finish with superglue if you’re worried about loose knots. (optional)

Repeat for the other earring.

Trim to size! I made mine 5 inches like the Vanessa Mooney style earrings.

Voila! Light and easy to wear.
